Windows 10 Is Out of Support: Your Options

Windows 10 reached end of support on October 14, 2025, which means no more security updates, feature updates, or technical support from Microsoft. This guide walks through your three options: a free upgrade to Windows 11, a new PC, or buying time with the Extended Security Updates (ESU) program.

What end of support means

Your PC still runs. It just stops getting fixed.

No more security updates — As of October 14, 2025, Windows 10 stopped getting fixes.
Your PC still works — It turns on, runs your programs, nothing breaks overnight.
But it gets riskier over time — New viruses and scams target the holes that never get patched.

Your options now that Windows 10 is out of support, step by step

Option 1

1Upgrade to Windows 11, for free

If your PC runs Windows 10, version 22H2, and meets the minimum hardware requirements, the upgrade costs nothing.

WHAT TO DOCheck Settings, Windows Update. If you’re eligible, you’ll see the option to upgrade right there.
